Media, Film & Cultural Representation Clause
Terms & Conditions – Cultural Integrity
1. Cultural Representation Responsibility
Santali culture, language, customs, festivals, attire, rituals, and community life are part of a living indigenous heritage. Any representation of Santali identity in films, videos, digital media, web series, advertisements, social media, or other visual content carries a responsibility of accuracy, dignity, and respect.
2. Common Issues of Misrepresentation
The Santali community has observed recurring issues in film and media, including but not limited to:
- Incorrect or distorted portrayal of Santali culture
- Use of non-Santali practices presented as Santali traditions
- Inaccurate depiction of Sarna Dharam, rituals, or festivals
- Use of Ol Chiki symbols or language without proper understanding
- Stereotyping, exaggeration, or derogatory representation
- Mixing of unrelated tribal or non-tribal cultural elements
Such representations cause cultural confusion, loss of authenticity, and long-term harm, especially among younger generations.
3. Cultural Verification & Advisory Guidance
Creators, producers, directors, and media platforms are strongly advised to seek cultural review and guidance before releasing content that claims to represent Santali culture or identity.
- Cultural review is voluntary and advisory
- It is intended to support authenticity, not restrict creativity
- Review helps avoid unintended misrepresentation or offense
4. Verified vs Unverified Media Content
- Media content that has undergone cultural review may be described as 'Culturally Reviewed / Verified' under community frameworks.
- Media content that has not undergone review should not be presented as authoritative or authentic representation of Santali culture.
Unverified content may be created independently, but no cultural endorsement or recognition is implied.
5. Use of Names, Symbols & Identity
No film, media content, or production may:
- Claim association with WeSantal or its councils without authorization
- Use Santali cultural identity, Ol Chiki script, or Sarna Dharam references in a misleading or disrespectful manner
- Present fictional or altered elements as authentic Santali traditions
Misuse may result in public clarification of non-association.
6. Public Awareness & Cultural Reference
Institutions, educators, researchers, and media audiences are encouraged to exercise discretion when interpreting Santali representation in films and media that are not culturally reviewed.
Cultural accuracy is essential for:
- Education
- Research
- Public understanding
- Inter-community respect
7. Future Cultural Standards & Collaboration
As cultural documentation and standardization efforts progress, accurate and verified representation will become increasingly important for:
- Educational use
- Cultural archives
- Institutional reference
- Academic and government-aligned initiatives
Media content that does not follow basic cultural accuracy may face limitations in such contexts.
8. No Censorship or Legal Enforcement
WeSantal and its affiliated cultural bodies:
- Do not censor films or media
- Do not ban creative works
- Do not exercise legal enforcement authority
All guidance provided is cultural, advisory, and reference-based.
Official Cultural Note
"Cultural freedom and creative expression are respected. At the same time, indigenous cultures deserve accurate and dignified representation. Cultural review exists to support understanding, not to control expression."
Official Note
"WeSantal establishes reference standards for culture and education. Recognition under these frameworks reflects alignment with community-verified standards, not statutory authority."
